Much of the hostility toward private wealth comes from the same impulse: hatred of its ability to insulate the citizen from the will of the state. Money empowers resistance; it gives one the ability to buy some gold coins, for example, and thereby hold a measure of independence from the monetary monopoly of the state; to send children to a private school and avoid the brainwashing of the public education monopoly; to open a foreign bank account and provide oneself with protection against legal confiscation schemes. Propaganda alleging the immorality of inherited wealth is also a reflection of the assault on the family. Before he dropped into noumenal oblivion, Charles Reich wrote that private property “guards the troubled boundary between individual man and the state,” but that there is a new wealth that has replaced it, one dispensed in myriad forms by the state. Increasingly, therefore, “Americans live on government largesse – allocated by government on its own terms, and held by recipients subject to conditions which express ‘the public interest.’ ” People who are thus described are more likely to be compliant servants of the authorities than are those who earn their living by giving value to private citizens who prize what they have to offer.
Idols for Destruction – Herbert Schlossberg
Are we there yet?
Our Labour government seems to love wasting money. So nothing should surprise me at this point. But what I heard today when driving home had me shouting “That’s crap!” at my car radio. Here’s the offending statement.
One of the best ways to boost our immunity against COVID-19 and protect ourselves from getting really sick is a booster.
In addition, I, and no doubt all New Zealanders received a colour flyer from Mummy government in my mailbox nagging me to get my flu vaccine and covid booster.
Does anyone actually still believe this foolishness? Who is actually getting the boosters? I know plenty of people who had multiple boosters and have had terrible immunity since. Stories of getting COVID-19 3 times amongst these people are not something unusual. Meanwhile, my unvaccinated friends seem to be soldiering on pretty well thank you very much.
My trust in the health authorities is at an all-time low. Their senseless masking protocols (and I don’t just mean the physical masks) and their one-eyed approach to what must be one of the worst vaccines in history are pathetic and suggest they are beholden to interests other than public health. On covid, I don’t think they know what they are talking about, and I’m starting to think that on the basics my common sense is going to be more helpful than listening to government health bureaucrats.
Not only are these advertisements a waste of money, but they highlight how slow centralised systems are at responding to new data. I guess at least we’ve moved on from the lies that if you get vaccinated you won’t get or transmit covid, or that you won’t get sick or die. Credit where credit’s due, our dim-witted system has finally admitted in this advert that there are other ways of protecting yourself against covid such as keeping active and eating good nutritious meals, something seemingly forgotten when South Aucklanders were bribed with KFC to get vaccinated despite evidence clearly demonstrating that apart from age, obesity was a key reason covid 19 proved fatal.
Get your booster? Yeah nah.
Self-Awareness 0 Hypocrisy 1
The lack of self-awareness of some of the left is just gob-stopping.
Thus says the pink-haired woman who supported forced masking, vaccine passports and mandated vaccination that affected so many New Zealanders. We have just had two years of religious zealots such as her ruining our lives, livelihoods and our country’s economy all in the name of supposedly saving lives. But dare we on the right actually try saving lives by…I don’t know… stopping the murder of innocent babies, we are religious zealots who are taking people’s rights away.
The right to take innocent human life is no right at all despite what the demons from hell and their servants on earth might think on the matter. Interestingly enough, like so many of her ilk, she’s not willing to hear from the other side. Only those she mentions and follows can reply. Because there is no argument for abortion. You either are against it, or you are committed to an evil atrocity and both history and Christ will judge you for it.
Then we have our childish prime minister adding her deep ‘wisdom’ on the issue. She boasts of our country’s recent shame of turning the murder of innocent unborn children into a ‘health’ issue. Then without stopping to wash the blood from her hands, she sanctimoniously mounts her high horse to speak to the people. The overturning of Roe v Wade according to her facile approach is about the personal convictions of some robbing others of the right to make their own decisions.
Wow. Another silly leftist woman so full of hubris that she can’t see her own hypocrisy. How dare this woman lecture on this topic? How dare she talk about personal beliefs infringing on the rights of people to make their own decisions? You forced almost an entire country to get vaccinated, many against their will and at threat of the loss of livelihood with an experimental vaccine. Stop talking. You have no moral right to wax eloquent about not robbing people of their right to choose.
Thank goodness both these women are on the wane. The sooner they are gone from public life, the better for our country. God protect us from godless and meddling women.
Brief Thoughts on the Lay of the Land
It’s been obvious to all but the most panicked and fearful that the foolishness of the last couple of years has worn itself out. Even apologists for the government’s authoritarian actions earlier in the shamdemic are critiquing the validity of mandates in an omicron environment while still sanctimoniously congratulating themselves on having supported the control health measures, and ‘loved their neighbour’ through their support of state coercion of citizens to be vaccinated. They rest in the self-righteous knowledge that they have helped save New Zealand.
Except that they haven’t. Sure people weren’t dying of covid when we were all locked in our homes for weeks on end and refusing to let people visit our island nation. But what’s happened since the arrival of omicron? Their god the state through its Messiah figure Ardern promised salvation from covid damnation through the sacraments of masks and vaccination. But like all false gods, this one has failed miserably, much to the mirth of the true God (Psalm 2). Only the truly naive and self-deceived can believe that this has all been worth it. Rampant inflation is one of many signs that God is not mocked. Idolatry always ends badly.

In my time attending fairly typical evangelical churches, I have noticed a pattern in public prayer. Those who pray about national or international situations do so with a distinctly socialist / left wing approach. The solution is always centralist intervention and control. This is the standard approach to prayer that is acceptable in most evangelical churches. Woe-betide anyone who steps outside of this script. It will be deemed as the terrible sin of ‘being political’. This is typical of a culture where secularism is by default seen as neutral and anything that challenges it is seen as religious.

And so it begins. A press release from Mr Seymour on Friday indicated that change was in the air. More came on Sunday’s press release. Then came a live video chat with Seymour on Sunday evening. There are few things as amusing as a politician doing an about-turn and trying to pretend it is not an about-turn.
Seymour uses the press release to put the boot into Jacinda Ardern and Trevor Mallard, as you would expect.

One of the oddest things is how many evangelical Christians have refused to say the vaccination mandates are unjust. Even now as the narrative is collapsing, they refuse to show public support for those protesting the mandates. This seems to me to demonstrate that their functional Lord is Caesar and not Christ.
The cracks in the dam are showing
The end of the Covid nightmare seems in sight. The sceptics are being proved right, and more and more people are waking up to the injustice of the government’s authoritarian response these last couple of years. The Convoy, and subsequent police brutality and politicians’ disdainful dismissal of genuine grievances has been the combustible material that will bring more to Wellington in support of the convoy and maintain the pressure on our corrupt and cowardly politicians.
Jacinda’s dismissal of the protestors as “not representative of the vast majority of New Zealanders” is only likely to push more enraged people into protests. We have seen with our own eyes packed motorway bridges. Our telegram channels have been inundated with videos from real people, not media with a set perspective to push. We are not 70-year old nanas ready and willing to believe what the nice people on the news serve up to us each night about those nasty anti-vaxxers who don’t care if everyone dies.

The failure of the New Zealand church through the pandemic ought to be clear to all except the most blinded by now. I suspect that when we eventually get back to normal, the church won’t look like it did in 2020. Many individual churches have been weighed and found wanting. The rot that was already in some of the timber but painted over with nice glossy paint so that the average Christian didn’t notice it has been exposed for just about all to see. It turns out paint over dry rot counts for nothing when someone comes along and squeezes that timber hard. So what has happened to the flock?

Lately I’ve been thinking about how we get out of this mess. Sure Ardern is dropping in popularity – surprisingly slowly given her government’s incompetence and wickedness. I think part of the problem is that so many Kiwis have bought the “Health Issue” narrative, and because they have done everything they have been told, they are relatively unaffected. Unfortunately, many of these ordinary Kiwis think they are getting a balanced and fair representation of the state of things when they switch on the 6 o’clock news or read Stuff. Before scoffing at their naivety, which let’s admit it, would be cathartic, we should consider how to wake these Kiwis up. We don’t want a third consecutive year ruined by these authoritarian tyrants.
