Dear Pastor,

I am having some trouble with my wife. I commanded her to wear a chicken suit every time she leaves the house, but she refuses. Can you please tell her to submit to my authority since wearing a chicken suit is not sinful and would not hinder her from proclaiming the Gospel? In fact, quite the opposite. I believe this is a loving thing to do as it would bring joy to many people and open a door for sharing the Gospel. She can tell people “I’m a Christian and look how I’m submitting to my husband. Don’t you want to want to become a Christian, too?” Surely this kind of submission to authority will win many people to Christ. After all, we have been told this by many famous evangelical leaders, so it must be true. Thank you for understanding. My wife and I await your speedy reply.

    Why not extend that? In the U.S. (I don’t know about N.Z.), a strong argument can be made that the graduated income tax on wages (considered an exchange of ones ‘life’ which cannot be taxed) is immoral and unconstitutional. For many years after the country was founded, it did not exist. Nor did the the IRS collection agency.

    The government however created a lawless requirement to pay tax on wages ‘voluntarily’ and a lawless agency to collect it. Of course if one doesn’t ‘volunteer’ they go to jail. Most choose to ‘volunteer’ under compulsion simply because it isn’t worth the fight. So the pertinent question is “what hill should I die on?” Not EVERY hill is worth it, and one tactic of the enemy is to engage people in dying on the wrong hills.

    What about when Jesus had Peter fish up a gold coin in order to pay an obligation Jesus clearly stated was not required: THEY were the children of the kingdom, not foreigners.

    I’m not settled on this issue by any means, just raising some questions. Clearly most governments in the world have for decades been advancing immoral legislation with the express purpose of legally defining Christians as criminals.

    In N.Z. the anti-smacking legislation, hate speech legislation, the conversion therapy legislation, the health response legislation, is all clearly crafted to attack Christians. If wearing a face-mask defaces God’s image, it may be a hill to do on. I’m just not sure yet.

    A first-hand account from one of the survivors of the recent Delta outbreak published today.

    “Waalkens was put on a continuous positive airway pressure [CPAP] machine, and later a respirator.
    The breathing tubes down her throat meant she couldn’t talk, communicating instead by text.
    Her only concern was her children, especially her son with cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening disorder which damages the lungs and digestive system.
    “I just remember thinking of the kids the whole time … ‘God, if they get this, look at me – they’re gonna die’. I was messaging the nurse saying, ‘If my son gets this, I won’t see him, and he’ll die’.”

    “Only three of the 188 people hospitalised in New Zealand’s Delta outbreak were fully immunised – which means at least two weeks have passed since their second vaccination – and Covid-19 cases in fully vaccinated Kiwis account for just 4.5 per cent of total cases, director-general of health Ashley Bloomfield said on Thursday.
    Her message to all eligible Kiwis who remain unvaccinated, whether through fear or choice, is to get the jab now, Waalkens said.
    “All these anti-vaxxers that post this dribble that they’ll just up their doses of vitamins – trust me, no amount of vitamins is gonna shake this.””
